A shocking disappointment.

Along with regular resort skiing, sometimes it’s fun to spend some extra energy and go on a ski tour. And what do you want after a ski tour? As much food as possible. Imagine my surprise when I got to one of the largest Huttes expecting a delicious meal… and definitely not getting that.

The Review:

The Kreuzeckhaus is another one of those mountain restaurants I’ve only seen from afar, located at the top of the Kreuzeckbahn. This was a well-earned meal, after about 5 hours of touring through the mountains and 1,000 calories burned, a Schnitzel surely would solve all my problems. I was surprised that the price was one of the lowest on the mountain – beaten only in affordability by the Kreuzalm (and only by 30 cents!) Unfortunately, the low cost didn’t justify the rest of it. Small serving size – the entire serving was almost half of what you’d get anywhere else, and the side salad was roughly two slices of cucumber. No cranberry sauce – something we’ve slowly grown used to by now – and the meat was extremely chewy. HArd to cut and chew, it felt like more work to eat in my ravenous state than was worth it. I’d be willing to go back and see if maybe I just got a bad serving but otherwise it was a bit of a disappointment. Not bad at all, just kind of mid.

While the actual meal was disappointing, I did also order a lemon pound cake which was INSANELY good. Just about as perfect as you can make a cake and extremely satisfying.
